Machine Learning Researcher
Location: Toronto, Ontario
As a ML Researcher, your primary focus will be to discover novel ways to apply the latest techniques in machine learning to healthcare problems that have the potential impact millions of lives worldwide. You will work with proprietary healthcare data from almost every continent, and design and implement foundational ML systems that have not even hit arXiv yet. We are looking for a researcher who intuitively understands the nature of research and are eager to rapidly prototype new algorithms and models using big data technologies. Your secondary focus will be on publishing papers in academic journals and conferences in strategic research areas for the company.
Your team will own

  • Developing new models, optimizing hyper parameters, and implementing machine learning services in local, cluster, and cloud environments
  • Analyzing and debugging prediction models
  • Work closely with Platform Engineers and ML Engineers to assist in transition of R&D development into production-ready system
About you

Requirements

  • PhD degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics or related field and at least 1 year industry experience
  • Proven track-record publishing in Machine Learning, Operational Research, Statistics or related fields.
  • Strong understanding of deep neural networks and their applications in NLP
  • Your research will be long-term in nature but you are always be on the lookout for projects that can have impact in the short-term.
  • Experience with productizing your research by developing production code in Python, Java/Scala, C/C+
  • Comfortable working with different types data stores such as SQL, noSQL, cache databases, and some experience with MySQL, PostgreSQL, Redis

Bonus
  • Hands-on experience in GPU optimization (CUDA and/or OpenCL) and implementing algorithms on multi-core CPUs
  • Experience with big data technologies Postgres, Cassandra, Spark, Hadoop, Hive
  • Experience with Tensorflow (or similar libraries) from GPU training, efficient input pipelines (queues, Dataset API, and the like), to deployment of packaged/compiled models, and distributed computing (sharding, clusters, etc.)
  • R&D experience in active learning, transfer learning, reinforcement learning and their applications for natural language processing

  • Perform literature review and maintain cutting edge expertise in some of the methods employed in the Lydia AI data science pipeline
  • Rapidly prototype a new machine learning technique by collaborating with ML Engineers to deliver on feature requirements
  • Coordinate effectively with clinicians and subject matter experts for human validation
  • Draft, edit, and prepare academic papers in leading scientific conferences to evangelize your work
